MY HARGUESS FAMILY HISTORY & GENEALOGY SITE
Welcome To
The mechanism through which I am able to share what I have discovered over the years about the family’s history and lore, and to expand upon the Ancestry.com account I currently administrate.
This ever expanding project could not happen if it were not for the help of so many people within and outside of the family.
Thank you and good journey- A. Harguess
THE BEGINNINGS OF THE THREE BLOODLINES
MODERN DAY ORIGINS
I have long since come to understand that for what ever reason, our main bloodline dwindled down to a single man. Thomas Granviel Hargiss (uess) born June 15th 1865, in Newark Arkansas. Thomas died April 25th 1925, in Halesboro Texas.
He is the progenitor of the three branches of the Harguess family tree. We can all trace our origins back to him. His sons and fathers of our three branches were Daniel Lay, Robert Granviel, and Alpha Earl.
DANIEL LAY HARGUESS Sr.
BRANCH ONE
Daniel was the 2nd born of 11 children. Daniel was born on December 11th 1881 in Arkansas. Daniel died August 30th 1962 while living in Phoenix Arizona and was buried in Mesa Arizona.
He Married Sara R. Valentine and had 11 children. Four of which passed away before their first birthday.
Daniel lived in Arkansas until around 1920. Sometime after 1920 he moved to Texas where he seemed to move from place to place several times. He finally settled in Arizona where he would live out his final days.
ROBERT GRANVIEL HARGUESS
BRANCH TWO
When Robert G. Harguess was born on October 18, 1883, his father, Thomas, was 27 and his mother, Louisa, was 23. He married on February 21, 1909, in Clarksville, Texas to Nellie Frances McFatridge.
Together they had five children in 14 years.
Some time around 1938 Robert moved his family to Kern County California.
He died on January 17, 1943, in Vallejo, California, at the age of 59, and was buried there.
ALPHA EARL HARGUESS
BRANCH THREE
Alpha Earl Harguess was born on April 8, 1887, in Arkansas and was the youngest of the three brothers who spawned the three branches of our tree.
He married Cora May Butler on September 4th 1904 and they had five children together. Cora passed away in 1928.
Alpha married a second time and had one daughter with a miss Abbie Averilla.
Alpha died on January 9th, 1965, in Borger, Texas, at the age of 77.
Before you dive deeper into the site a few pieces of information will make your visit here helpful. I have arranged the records of this Archive in a simple way to make keeping both individual families and members of those families straight.
Both FGPs and IPs are labled as follows FSG-xxxxx / IP-xxxxx. So FSG-0001 would signify the first known family within the bloodline. Additionally, The bloodline is composed of five separate parts listed as BRANCHES. BRANCH-A, -0, -1, -2, -3.
A signifies ANCESTORS before the primary branch. All are listed before 1890.
0 Is the PRIMARY branch. That of Thomas and Louisa. It is from this family that the tree branches start.
1 Is Daniel’s Branch.
2 Is Roberts Branch.
3 Is Alpha’s Branch.
Families are arranged by FAMILY GROUP SHEETS; or FGS, where an individual families are placed as a group. So Father, Mother, Son’s, and Daughters of a family are all Placed together. There you will find links to the INDIVIDUAL PROFILE; or IP, of Each Individual within that family.
Below are links to all The BRANCHES In our Family Tree. Obviously the farther back you go the less Data there is. Photos are uncommon if not nonexistent before the 1860’s. It is during the formation of the original colonies and just after that records in North America become really hard to find. Still there are always possibilities. This is where Ancestry.com and other like websites have really come into their own. They make finding records much easier, but more importantly they make it far easier to connect with people; which, is where the real magic happens.
